Najayra Valdovinos Soto

Youth Engagement Coordinator

Najayra is proud to call herself a DACAmented Mexican Immigrant. As an undocumented woman of color, the hardships, injustices, and lack of respect she experienced firsthand catalyzed her organizing work in the IE. A 20-year resident of Riverside, Najayra got her first taste of organizing as a student at the University of California, Riverside. While there, she was an active member of the group PODER and helped advocate for a range of immigrant issues.

Since earning her BA in Gender and Sexuality from UCR, Najayra continues to use her newfound skills to organize and advocate for the local community as the Youth Engagement Coordinator for the IEIYC. She hopes that her work with IEIYC helps to empower the local youth as a form of healing and builds the young leaders needed to create a community in which people—regardless of status, ethnicity, sexuality, or class—can live with dignity, grace, and power.
